Had you been in a coma for all of 2005, you could probably take a halfway decent stab at what happened simply based on the top ten words looked up at Merriam-Webster's website over the past year. 2004 doesn't seem quite as correlated - true, it has words like "incumbent", "electoral" and "insurgent", but it also has "defenestration" and "cicada" ... although really, who doesn't think about tossing irritating noisy creatures out a window during an election year?
