overheard

eavesdropping for the technologically savvy

"She used to put pork chops in her purse... wrap them up in a napkin and take them home. And she'd tell them she was only going to have half a cup of coffee, so she only wanted to pay for half a cup of coffee..."
-chicks at breakfast place, talking about some ridiculously cheap person

Isn't coffee, like, 95 cents??? I can't imagine having the smell of pork chops wafting out of my purse... yick.

The future Mr. J and I met Buzz Aldrin today! He went to the freakin' MOON, man!! He wrote a children's book and did a book signing at a local mall. It was really, REALLY awesome.
I saw the "Advanced Pavement Laboratory" at ASU! (We were there for Black Susan's wildly successful Ph.D. defense... hooray, Susan!) Also heard the following:

"I mean, she was being nice? For no reason?? Who does that?!" -very cheerful girl at ASU on her cell phone

I though I was a pessimist, but wow!

It wasn't overheard, but at the airport I saw this lady accidentally body-check her 7-yr old son into a wall. Luggage can be hard to manage sometimes, so I understand. Also this conversation occurred:

Recently Body-Checked Child: Dad, do you like Rottweilers?
Dad: Well, no, not particularly:
RB-CC: Well, what about pretend Rottweilers?

The merits of pretend Rottweilers were then discussed. I think that's adorable, actually!

This website:

http://www.tinymixtapes.com/amg/

has some very cool stuff. basically, people submit theme ideas for mix tapes, and then other people put together songs on the themes. A sample theme:

"I bought Suave shampoo and used it once but refuse to anymore because it made me smell like your fabric softener, and I hate you."

and a list of relevant songs follows. Ah, I wish I were that creative.
